Always offered at a meeting, always served before iftar, always present at Eid. The Prophet Muhammad ate them; Emirati identity is partly built around them. Medjool, Ajwa, Khallas — varieties exist with serious distinctions. Accepting the offer of a date is basic courtesy; refusing without reason is a small social misstep.
