The khor (inlet) that splits Dubai into Deira (north) and Bur Dubai (south). The original reason there was a city here at all — a natural harbour for the dhow trade. Still crossed by abra. The Gold Souk, the Spice Souk, Al Fahidi, and the oldest parts of Dubai are on either side of it. New Dubai has no equivalent; that's partly why Old Dubai feels like it has something the rest doesn't.
