Frankincense.
/luban (Arabic)/· n. · Arabiccustomthing
"Aromatic resin burned as incense. Traded here for 3,000 years."

Luban in Arabic. Collected from Boswellia trees in Oman, Yemen, and East Africa, traded through the Arabian Peninsula for millennia. Burned on charcoal in the same way as oud but lighter and more resinous. The smell is present in mosques, homes, and heritage spaces. Frankincense chewing (a small amount, like gum) is an Omani habit with some presence in UAE tradition. If someone offers it to you, try it.
