An artificial canal carved from the desert between 2003 and 2010, lined with over 200 high-rise towers and 120,000 residents. The Marina Walk — 7km of promenade around the canal — is genuinely pleasant in winter and genuinely unusable in July. Yachts moor there with varying levels of plausibility about whether they go out.
Predominantly expat, younger, transient — engineers, finance workers, and young professionals in 1–2 bedroom apartments. It has everything a district needs: gyms, supermarkets, restaurants, the tram, metro at JLT. It lacks the texture of older Dubai, which is the point for a lot of the people who choose it.
