Barasti.
/ba-ras-ti/· n. · Arabiccustomplace
"Traditional palm-frond shelter. Now an aesthetic."

Historically, a barasti was a structure woven from date palm fronds — light, breathable, designed for the Gulf climate before air conditioning. Almost none survive outside museums. The word and aesthetic have been resurrected by beach clubs and outdoor restaurants who use the fronds for shade structures and roofing to evoke heritage they've never lived. It works beautifully as design. Whether it means anything is a different question.
