One of the oldest surviving neighbourhoods in the city: narrow lanes, coral-and-gypsum houses, and the barjeel wind towers that cooled rooms before electricity. Built largely by Persian merchants from Bastak — hence its old name, Bastakiya.
Today it's restored as an arts-and-heritage district: galleries, the coffee museum, cafés, and the Sheikh Mohammed Centre for Cultural Understanding. The closest Dubai comes to showing you what it looked like before the towers.
