Opened 2005. Ski Dubai: an 85-metre-high slope, a chairlift, a snow park, 22,500 tonnes of real snow behind a glass wall visible from the food court, and penguins who appear periodically. The penguins are not a metaphor.

The ski slope was a spectacle when it opened. Twenty years later it is simply infrastructure, used by residents with the same attitude as the car park. The mall itself is large and well-organised and has had Harvey Nichols since the beginning. Both things coexist without either needing to acknowledge the other.
